Carl Nassib Continues To Receive Support, This Time From Teammate Derek Carr

Just over two weeks after Carl Nassib announced that he’s gay, support for the Raiders defensive end continues to pour in. The latest big-name person to offer his acceptance is Derek Carr, the team’s quarterback. Not all of their Las Vegas teammates agree with Nassib's lifestyle, which has prompted some to raise questions, but the overall team support is unwavering.

"Our team has been all for having his back. That doesn't mean everyone agrees with the lifestyle or agrees with that. We live in a country where nowadays people think if you don't agree then you can't love one another and have their back, and that is the farthest thing from the truth," said Carr during an appearance on the Chris Collinsworth podcast featuring Richard Sherman.

Carr took some heat initially for not supporting Nassib on social media in the hours and days following his announcement. Because as we all know, if you don't post it on social media it never really happened! The quarterback explained to Collinsworth and Sherman that he did reach out to Nassib privately to offer support: "I said, 'Carl, I love you, bro.' And I said, 'You know I love you and I got your back, no matter what. You're my brother. And all I want to do is win a Super Bowl with you.' "

He reiterated that even those teammates who have raised questions are backing Nassib: "There are some guys that have raised a question or two, but they all say, without a doubt, 'We have his back and he's our brother. So if you want to mess with him, you have to go through us.'"

Nassib is the first active NFL player to come out as gay.
