Broncos Reportedly Looking To Move Into Draft Top 5

At one time, many people had predicted a big second-year leap from Drew Lock. Instead, the former second round pick for the Denver Broncos seemed to take a step back in 2020, leaving people wondering about his future with the franchise.

Now perhaps a trade up into the top 5 could be in the cards for the Broncos. Team insider Woody Paige is saying a trade up with the Atlanta Falcons, who have the No. 4 pick, is a real possibility.

The target? Either Justin Fields or Trey Lance.

If they want to guarantee one of those two guys, they have to make a move with Atlanta. Trevor Lawrence is going No. 1 to the Jaguars, Zach Wilson is likely going to the Jets at No. 2, and the 49ers are going to choose between Lance, Fields and Mac Jones at No. 3.

Even if Denver has no interest in Jones, they'll still be able to get the guy they want with a trade up to No. 4 overall. If the front office sits back and hopes for a fall, they will likely miss out.

There are still a few holes on the roster, but the core of the team is in a good spot overall. The offensive line is promising, there's a group of young pass-catchers (Courtland Sutton, Jerry Jeudy, Noah Fant, Tim Patrick and KJ Hamler) already in place, and the defense isn't far off. If John Elway and company want to compete in the AFC West, they need to find a suitable quarterback.

If they believe Lance or Fields is that guy, then they have to do what it takes to get him. It's been a little while since the Peyton Manning days. It's time for some long-term QB stability in Denver.
