Baker Mayfield Says Scan Revealed Broken Bone In Shoulder

The Cleveland Browns found a way to get a much-needed win on Thursday night, thanks in large part to backup quarterback Case Keenum, who may be steering the Cleveland offense for longer than expected. Prior to kickoff vs. Denver, Fox's Jay Glazer broke news that in addition to a torn labrum, Browns starter Baker Mayfield has another injury that needs to heal before he can step onto the field again.

Glazer reported that: "Baker Mayfield tells me in addition to his torn labrum he also fractured his humerus bone (shoulder) according to a scan this week. Baker said the fracture is preventing his rotator cuff from firing."

Mayfield was initially injured in Cleveland's Week Two win versus Houston when he attempted to make a tackle off of an interception. Additional damage appeared to be done during last Sunday's loss to Arizona when Mayfield was brought down by J.J. Watt.

Per Glazer, Mayfield said he needs "that (shoulder) fracture to heal for me to get back out there."

It seems unlikely, but not impossible, that Mayfield will be ready for the Browns' next game, a Halloween date with division-rival Pittsburgh. When asked about a potential Mayfield return for the Steelers game, Cleveland head coach Kevin Stefanski responded: "Of course there's a chance for all of it. But we're too early to give you a good number."

In Mayfield's absence, Keenum shouldered the load, throwing for 199 yards, one touchdown and no turnovers.
