As Expected, Allen Robinson Extension With Bears Appears Unlikely

Bears fans may have gained Justin Fields this offseason, but they might soon lose star receiver Allen Robinson. With a Thursday deadline looming for Robinson and the Bears to reach agreement on a new contract, all signs point to Robinson leaving Solider Field after 2021.Tom Pelissero of The NFL Network sent caution to Chicago fans, calling the possibilities of a new deal "unlikely".

Under terms of the franchise tag, Robinson is set to earn just under $18 million for 2021. The 27-year-old has already signed the tag, guaranteeing he'll be with Chicago for at least one more season, preventing a hold out. The Chicago front office and Robinson's camp are apparently far apart on an extension, and at this point, both parties seem content to divorce following the 2021 campaign.

Pellisero reported that it's been months since any "substantial talks" have taken place.

Robinson posted 102 catches, 1,250 yards and 6 touchdowns last season while caught in the middle of Chicago's quarterback carousel, flip-flopping between Mitch Trubisky and Nick Foles. Since signing with the Bears in 2018, he's been far and away the best option in an inconsistent passing attack. He's played in 45 games over that span, scoring 17 times. Robinson initially signed for $42 million over 3 years and is now seeking a few more zeros.

Arizona's DeAndre Hopkins is currently the NFL's highest paid receiver with an annual average of more than $27 million.
