Andy Reid On OBJ Rumors: Chiefs Keeping 'Eyes And Ears Open'

Former Cleveland Browns receiver Odell Beckham Jr. is now an unrestricted free agent and considering the Kansas City Chiefs, Green Bay Packers and New Orleans Saints as potential landing spots.

Beckham cleared waivers Tuesday after being released by the Cleveland Browns on Monday and said he wants to spend the rest of this season with a playoff contender.

Chiefs (5-4) head coach Andy Reid said general manager Brett Veach is "always going to keep his eyes and ears open," when asked about it Wednesday.

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes said he hadn't been in contact with Beckham.

"Obviously, he's a really good football player who's done a lot of great things in this league," Mahomes said Wednesday. "... I let handle that and I focus on this opponent this week and go out there and try to play with whoever is on the field."

Seattle Seahawks (3-5) head coach Pete Carroll hasn't shot down the OBJ speculation when asked this week.

“You’ll see,” Carroll told reports with a grin. “We’re aware of what’s going on and we’ve been involved to understand it and compete to know what’s happening. We’ll let you know as soon as it happens. I got to wait. So, I didn’t say yes or I didn’t say no. That’s because … you’ll see.”

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (6-2) head coach Bruce Arians squashed any rumors that the defending Super Bowl champions would sign Beckham.

The Browns excused Beckham from practice last week while the sides negotiated his exit. He asked to be traded and never developed an on-field connection with Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield.

ESPN reports that Beckham essentially forced his release last week when his father shared an 11-minute video on social media — of plays in which Mayfield didn't pass OBJ the ball — just hours before the trade deadline.

Cleveland must pay Beckham $4.25 million but will save $3 million from his renegotiated contract, ESPN reports.

The 29-year-old receiver had 17 catches for 232 yards and zero touchdowns in six games this season. After arriving in Cleveland in 2019 due to a blockbuster trade with the New York Giants, Beckham has logged only two 100-yard games in 29 games.

ESPN reports the three-time Pro Bowler had 1,035 receiving yards in his first season with the Browns but suffered a season-ending knee injury and was out when the team ended a playoff drought, per ESPN.
