Adam Gase Still Employed After Jets Loss To Broncos, But For How Long?

The headlines this morning out of New York aren't pretty for Jets head coach Adam Gase and quarterback Sam Darnold after a 37-28 loss to the Broncos. That would be a 37-28 loss to an undrafted quarterback, Brett Rypien (Mark's nephew), making his first NFL start (NINE career NFL pass attempts coming into this game) and who threw two fourth-quarter interceptions. The Jets still couldn't find a way to win and are now 0-4.

“We’re working to get this thing right,” Gase told the media after the game. “I’m not happy about this. I know we can play way better than this, I know we can not beat ourselves, do the things we’re doing.”

Darnold finished 23 of 42 for 230 yards, but he did have six carries for 84 yards and a 46-yard rushing touchdown. That said, the Darnold era appears to be flaming out fast before our eyes during a week where JuJu Smith-Schuster said he'd love to have Darnold join the Steelers.

We all know the fate that awaits Gase. Jets ownership had to figure they'd let him get through the Broncos game and see if things could get on track. The only thing saving Gase at this point is the fact that the stands are empty and fans can't boo inside MetLife. Jets management might be thinking they leave him out there to keep the disaster rolling into a top pick and cut him loose in December when the coaching carousel begins.

"I love Adam but it's not my decision to make," Darnold told the media after running his career record to 11-19. Gase's career coaching record now stands at 30-38 and 7-13 in New York.
