49ers Sign QB Josh Rosen From Buccaneers' Practice Squad
According to a report from ESPN's Adam Schefter, the San Francisco 49ers are signing quarterback Josh Rosen off the Buccaneers' practice squad. The former first-round pick has talent, but he hasn't been trusted to lead a team. This signing might give him that opportunity, should San Francisco move on from Jimmy G down the road.
As NFL Insider @Fieldyates points out, providing Rosen with the opportunity to develop under Kyle Shanahan is a factor, although this same type of statement was made after the Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed Rosen so he could develop alongside Tom Brady. So far, we haven't heard much about any progress the former 10th pick has made in Tampa, but we we'll find out soon in San Francisco.
We also have to wonder why NFL franchises have been reluctant to commit to his long-term development. On tape, Josh Rosen has all the tools, which is probably why Shanahan wants to take a chance. However, Rosen also hasn't exactly been a likable kid, which has probably kept other teams from showing interest in him.
We hope Rosen finds a home soon because we don't know how many of these "Rosen's next stop" articles we can write before we give up on him ourselves.
