49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo Returns From Injured Reserve

The 5-9 San Francisco 49ers have announced that quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is returning to practice from the injured reserve. It's always good to get your starting QB back, but it's a little too late for heroics.

Although Jimmy G provides a major shot in the arm under center, the 49ers have already been eliminated from playoff contention. Regardless, letting a healthy Garoppolo practice and eventually play will help this team as they march towards the 2021 campaign.

Most NFL fans and many 49ers fanatics have sold their stock in Garoppolo. He's now viewed as "limited" inside the pocket. This makes sense after the bad taste he left when he overthrew Emmanuel Sanders in Super Bowl LIV and lost the game. Sometimes good individual stats can be overshadowed by failing to come through when it counts. Fair or not, that's how it works.

Opinion aside, the sixth-year quarterback was 12th in passing yards last season (3978), fifth in touchdown passes (27), and fourth in completion % (69.1). His return is a step in the right direction for San Francisco, and that's all the team can ask for right now. Welcome back, Jimmy G.
