Vols Dominated On Saturday, But That Pitt Loss Looks Even Worse Now
As the Vols took to the field on Saturday for their game against Tennessee Tech, they were hoping to get the bad taste out of their mouth from the Pitt game. Well, it was all Vols today, as they destroyed Tech today, giving them a 2-1 record on the season. Unfortunately for Tennessee, that one loss looks a lot worse after what happened in Pittsburgh today. The panthers, coming off a nice road win over the Vols, decided to come out and play like trash on defense against Western Michigan. As the Pitt defense held the Vols in check for most of the game last weekend, the same couldn't be said for them today, as Western Michigan racked up 516 total yards and forced 3 Pitt turnovers. This wasn't the performance Pat Narduzzi was looking for out of a team that went into Knoxville and played pretty good football, in the upset win. They only gave up 238 passing yards to Tennessee, while giving up 356 yards in the air to Western Michigan. Talk about a huge letdown. But lets face it, Tennessee blew it last weekend and today showed just how hot and cold this Pittsburgh team can be. Does this make the loss to Pittsburgh even worse for the Vols? It sure as heck doesn't help, especially when there were multiple opportunities to win the game. Oh, by the way, Western Michigan also rushed for over 160 yards against Pittsburgh today, on the road. It's safe to say the Tennessee should still be pissed off by letting that game get away last weekend, as it would've definitely been a different atmosphere in Knoxville this week. Now the Vols must go on the road to Florida, hoping to sustain some kind of offense through the air. Today wasn't a good look for the Vols, thanks to Pitt, but maybe they can make up for it next week in "The Swamp". Time will tell, but they sure can't afford to give away anymore wins.
