Two ESPN Bowl Games Canceled

ESPN, who owns the Hawaii Bowl and the Bahamas Bowl, announced this week both bowls have been canceled in 2020. Both games were scheduled to be played in December, but travel restrictions due to COVID gave ESPN no choice but to pull the plug on the games.

“We are disappointed that we aren’t able to stage events at these premier destinations this year,” Pete Derzis, ESPN’s senior vice president of college sports programming & ESPN Events, said this week. “We are committed to bringing both games back in 2021, and we thank our conference partners, sponsors and the local communities for their ongoing support and understanding.”

In July, the RedBox Bowl, played at Levi Stadium in Santa Clara, California, announced it would be the first 2020 bowl game to be canceled.

The college bowl season starts December 19 with the FBC Mortgage Cure Bowl and the Camellia Bowl on the same day as the Big Ten and Pac-12 end their conference seasons and one day before the College Football Playoff committee chooses its final four participants.
