The Vikings May Be Looking For Replacement For Kirk Cousins At TAMU Pro Day
The Minnesota Vikings have the 14th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, and the team is likely to fill that spot with a left tackle for their signal-caller.
But could the Vikings also be looking for a second man under center, a young man who will work alongside Kirk Cousins and eventually replace him?
The Vikings are now scheduled to enter the 2021 NFL Draft with the following 10 selections:
With the diverse pool of QB talent this draft, the Vikings have plenty of options and appear to be scouting them out. Their stop at Texas A&M to see quarterback Kellen Mond on Tuesday was of particular interest.
The Vikings, Steelers, Panthers, Bears, Bengals, Cowboys and Vikings all were present for the Aggies Pro Day Tuesday, according to Senior Bowl executive director Jim Nagy.
Mond would be an interesting choice for Minnesota. He has a quick release and can make plays, even when he’s under pressure.
Mond did his best to prove he is worth a selection in the 2021 NFL draft during the Pro Day, showcasing a 40-yard dash time of 4.59 seconds, Nagy tweeted.
His arm strength was also on display with a deep completion.
"The dual-threat quarterback produced impressive numbers throughout his career with the Aggies, totaling 9,661 passing yards and 71 touchdowns to go with 1,609 rushing yards and 22 scores on the ground," per Bleacher Report. "He improved his efficiency as a senior in 2020 with 19 touchdown passes and just three interceptions, also setting career highs with a 63.3 completion percentage and 7.7 yards per attempt."
KSTP’s Darren Wolfson tweeted that Minnesota was there for Mond and others, but did not specify the other prospects the Vikings were focusing on.
"At the pro day, there are players like LB Buddy Johnson and LT Dan Moore Jr., who fit needs for the Vikings, though," VikingsWire reports.
Minnesota has attended plenty of other schools’ pro days. The article states that just this week, Vikings GM Rick Spielman has been to Miami’s and Ohio State’s Pro Day events.
The team's mock draft shows the predicted pick for the No. 78 spot is likely Florida's quarterback Kyle Trask, whose Pro Day is Wednesday.
