Steve Sarkisian To Texas Might Not Be A Done Deal Yet

Steve Sarkisian to Texas is not official – at least not yet. After reports surfaced earlier in the day that the Alabama offensive coordinator was expected to land the Longhorn head coaching job, there are now people saying the opposite.

According to David Pollack with ESPN, those reports might have been premature. He sent this tweet out on Saturday morning.

“I see and have heard that Sark is the guy at Texas and now I have heard that Sark turned down the job.”

Well, that is certainly an interesting development. What reason could Sarkisian have for turning down the job -- if Pollack is correct, of course?

Could it be that the decision-makers in Austin wanted him on the job immediately, but Sarkisian wanted to stick it out for the national championship? Or maybe Texas wants to put pressure on someone else to accept?

Either of those are possibilities, but it could also be as simple as Alabama being willing to make an offer appealing enough to keep him around -- a pay raise and new unofficial title, perhaps. We just don’t know right now.

With the way this is playing out, it seems like Texas wanted a coach in place before hiring Herman. It also seemed like a foregone conclusion that Sarkisian would be that guy, and it still could be.

As of right now, we only know one thing: Tom Herman will no longer be the head coach. Where it goes from here is anyone's guess.
