Six Quarterbacks Participating In The Senior Bowl Have Been Announced
The Reese's Senior Bowl is set to get underway later this month. Players arrive on Saturday, Jan. 23, and practice gets started a few days later on Tuesday, Jan. 26.
With such news, Jim Nagy, the Executive Director of the Senior Bowl, has begun to announce the rosters for each team. On Friday, things got started with the quarterbacks, three for the National squad and three for the American squad.
The quarterbacks for the National team includes Ian Book (Notre Dame), Sam Ehlinger (Texas) and Feleipe Franks (Arkansas). On the other side, it will be Kyle Trask (Florida), Kellen Mond (Texas A&M) and Jamie Newman (Wake Forest/Georgia).
Trask is the most intriguing signal caller of the group. As a senior, the 6-foot-5, 240-pounder threw for 4,283 yards and 43 touchdowns with only eight interceptions. His 356.9 yards per game ranked second in the nation behind UCF's Dillon Gabriel (357).
Right now, it looks like Trask could be a Day 2 pick, but some have speculated that the first round isn't outside of the realm of possibility.
The second most intriguing quarterback of the group might be Jamie Newman. After transferring from Wake Forest to Georgia back in the spring of 2020, he chose to opt out prior to the start of the season.
That means NFL teams and evaluators will need to pay close to where he's at, as there won't be any recent tape on him. If he's counted as a Georgia guy, that would mean four of the six quarterbacks participating would come from the SEC. We'll keep it at three, however.
Stay tuned for more Senior Bowl roster updates as they come.
