Shocking! Auburn Can't Stop Alabama Either
Alabama has looked unstoppable this season. Some thought the rivalry factor and an improving Auburn squad might have a shot to slow them down, but once again, the Crimson Tide scored at will en route to a 42-13 win.
Really, it wasn't even that close.
The Tigers didn't score a touchdown until late in the fourth quarter. It was the first touchdown Alabama's defense has given up since the third quarter of the Tennessee game back on Oct. 24. In other words, it's been over a month.
That means the defense is starting to catch up with the offense. And that is a scary thought for the rest of the college football world. This is quickly becoming the most complete team, so it makes sense that they're ranked No. 1.
In year's past, the Crimson Tide's Achilles heel has been the kicking game. But Will Reichard has all but solved that issue. Once again, this is a complete team that seems to be getting better.
The schedule isn't lightening up anytime soon, though.
LSU is up next after a schedule change by the SEC. Yes, this isn't the same Tigers team we have been used to seeing. But it's in Baton Rouge and anything can happen. Then, it's an improved Arkansas squad before (more than likely) Florida in the SEC championship.
To assume a perfect regular season record is a foregone conclusion would be premature, but it is at least trending in that direction.
Against Auburn, Mac Jones continued to look like a Heisman Trophy candidate.
The redshirt junior completed 18 of 26 passes (69.2 percent) for another 300-yard performance (302). He also added five passing touchdowns and an 11.6 yards per attempt average. He wasn't perfect, but he was close.
Really, the entire offense continued to play at a near-perfect level.
A total of 445 yards (302 passing, 143 rushing) to go with 42 points with a 60-percent third-rate conversion rate.
Oh, and this all happened with Nick Saban watching from his couch due to testing positive for COVID-19 earlier this week. The legendary coach missed his first game since his coaching career began, and the Crimson Tide still won by more than four touchdowns.
Good luck to anyone left on this team's schedule.
