Report: Will Muschamp Out At South Carolina
Will Muschamp will no longer be the head coach at South Carolina. The news comes following yet another disappointing loss on Saturday, this time against Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss. The team's record this season now sits at 2-5.
The news of South Carolina relieving Muschamp of his duties made its way around social media. Bruce Feldman with The Athletic announced it via his Twitter account on Sunday evening.
Muschamp was in his fifth season in Columbia, but he couldn't get anything going consistently. There were quality wins here and there, including against Georgia last season stands and this year's victory over Auburn a few weeks ago.
However, a 28-30 overall record in under five seasons isn't going to get it done. The Gamecocks expect more than that, and despite being in the middle of a global pandemic, they were willing to go ahead and let Muschamp go.
In order to move on, South Carolina will need to pay Muschamp a buyout in excess of $15 million.
New offensive coordinator Mike Bobo will step in as interim head coach while the university goes through the process of finding a new leading man. Bobo has plenty of head coaching experience from his four seasons (2015-19) at Colorado State.
