Report: Tee Martin Plans to Stay at Tennessee, Withdraws Name From South Alabama HC Job

Tennessee fans received some good news on Saturday. Assistant coach Tee Martin reportedly plans to stay in Knoxville. And he has withdrawn his name for the head coaching vacancy at South Alabama.

Trey Knox with Fox Sports Knoxville tweeted out the recent development on Saturday after speaking to sources. The news came hours before the Vols kicked off their final regular season game against the Vanderbilt Commodores.

Martin currently acts as the wide receiver coach at Tennessee. The former Vols quarterback has spent time at other major programs such as USC (2012-18) and Kentucky (2010-11).

As a player, Martin began his career in Knoxville as Peyton Manning's backup from 1996-97. He then took advantage of his opportunity when he was the man under center during Tennessee's national championship season in 1998 under Phillip Fulmer.

His continued presence on Jeremy Pruitt's staff might be felt the most on the recruiting trail.

Update: It was announced on Saturday that South Alabama would hire Indiana defensive coordinator Kane Wommack as its next head coach. At 33 years old, that will make him the youngest coach in the FBS, according to CBS Sports.

Wommack has experience with the Jaguars, as he was the defensive coordinator there the two seasons prior to joining Indiana.
