Oklahoma Continues To Stockpile Elite QB Prospects
Oklahoma has a knack for stockpiling talent in its quarterback room. They seem to land an elite prospect at the position every other recruiting class, or at least it's working out that way.
On Sunday, the Sooners landed five-star signal caller Malachi Nelson, who is a part of the 2023 recruiting class. This is welcome news for fans and those involved with the program, as they currently don't have a quarterback commitment for 2022.
Hayes Fawcett with On3 Sports announced the news via his Twitter account.
Still, Oklahoma is in good position.
Spencer Rattler will be in Norman for at least one more season. Then the time will likely come for Caleb Williams, another five-star talent, to take over. Here is how the Sooners have recruited the position over the last few years:
Sure, the goal is to land an elite talent in every class, but that rarely happens. The next best thing is to land a premium talent in every other class, which is exactly what Lincoln Riley has been doing.
We've come a long ways since Oklahoma was landing transfer quarterbacks, right? After a run of Baker Mayfield, Kyler Murray and Jalen Hurts, Riley is turning to true quarterback development with high school players who can play multiple years in his system.
So far, that approach seems to be working out well.
