New FSU Quarterback McKenzie Milton Cleared To Play By Surgeons
It's been awhile since McKenzie Milton played football. The former UCF quarterback suffered a gruesome leg injury back in November of 2018, and he's been working his way back ever since.
Just over two years later in December of 2020, Milton decided to transfer to Florida State in order to finish his college career. There was obvious excitement about that decision, but many had wondered if he would ever get the opportunity to play.
Well, it looks like he's going to get that chance.
On Thursday, his mother, Teresa Milton, spoke with the Orlando Sentinel and shared some fantastic news. McKenzie has apparently been cleared by his surgeon to return to full-contact football.
“The exact words were, ‘If you had a game today, you could play,’” Teresa Milton told the Orlando Sentinel when asked about her son’s latest evaluation by Dr. Bruce Levy. “He said he has never had a patient with all these injuries recover like this — especially an athlete.”
Look, Milton was one of the most dynamic quarterbacks in the country when he was healthy at UCF.
During the team's national championship season in 2017, he completed 67.1 percent of his passes for 4,037 yards, 37 touchdowns and only nine interceptions. He also added another 613 yards and eight scores on the ground.
In his career, he's thrown for 8,683 yards, 72 touchdowns and only 22 interceptions. He's got 1,078 career rushing yards and 20 touchdowns as well.
He's a true dual-threat player at the position, and is exactly what Mike Norvell needs in Tallahassee.
Are there any concerns about him playing behind that Seminoles offensive line? Absolutely, but his ability to escape the pocket and create on the move could serve him well -- as long as he's still able to effectively.
College football is better when Florida State is better, so we hope he's able to return at full strength.
