New Arizona Coach Jedd Fisch Already Speaking In Patriot Generalities

You can take the man out of New England, but you can't take the New England mentality out of the man. That proved to be true once again with Arizona hiring Patriots quarterback coach Jedd Fisch.

Fisch was only in New England for one season under Bill Belichick, but he's already talking like him. On Wednesday, the new leading man for the Wildcats joined the Arizona Sports' Burns & Gambo show.

One of his goals? Avoiding another loss like the one Arizona suffered to in-state rival Arizona State in early December. The Sun Devils beat the Wildcats 70-7 to ensure a winless season for Arizona. That ultimately cost former head coach Kevin Sumlin his job.

It's no wonder Fisch is trying to avoid another loss like that.

“That’s not ok. We can’t allow that to ever happen again,” Fisch said, via ArizonaSports.com. “Our job is to go out there and have a culture of competition.

“We want to compete our tails off every time we walk onto the field and with that, we need to make sure we do a good job of building the program the way we want, shaping the roster the way we need to and then, bringing in some great football coaches.”

Breeding competition ... check!

Another goal? Getting the right staff in place.

“ very important for everybody to be rowing the boat in the same way and for everybody to be working together to achieve the successes that we hope to have,” Fisch said.

Generic "let's get on the same page" comment ... check!

And lastly, you have to build a football program from the ground up. It's all about the foundation, right? Right.

“Its starts with the foundation of our program,” Fisch continued. “It starts with us being able to make sure everyone in our program understands that we need to make sure we respect the game of football, we work extremely hard at becoming great at what we want to accomplish and we also have to be accountable to one another.”

Bill Belichick would be proud.
