Michigan Teams Will Commemorate Victims Of Oxford HS Shooting

The Michigan Wolverines and Detroit Lions will commemorate the Oxford High School shooting victims during this weekend's respective games.

On Tuesday, four high schoolers were fatally shot by a 15-year-old gunman while seven other people were injured at the scene — the gunman was apprehended and is now facing manslaughter charges.

The Lions will wear shirts and helmet decals dedicated to the memory of the victims and those injured at the scene.

"Those guys are on our minds, so we want to represent them on Sunday," responded Lions coach Dan Campbell. "I know there will be a group of those students and kids and people that have been affected that will be watching this game, so right now, that's the best way to help them."

The Wolverines will wear "a patch in the shape of a 'Block O' to represent Oxford," according to ESPN, along with a patch sporting "TM" and "the number 42 with four blue hearts below it." The blue hearts signify the victims, and TM will particularly honor Tate Myre.

Amid the crisis, Myre — an Oxford HS football star — was reportedly shot "while bravely trying to disarm the school shooter who killed three other students besides Myre and wounded at least seven others," per OutKick's Anthony Farris.

The three shooting victims were Hana St. Juliana, Madisyn Baldwin, and Justin Shilling.

Tate's father, Buck Myre, recalls arriving to the scene in a frantic search for his son, 16, when a neighboring friend approached him with a look of sorrow.

"You know who would go take that guy out, right?" asked the family friend, prompting Buck to lament upon understanding.

"We are proud to represent the state of Michigan and all of its communities," added the Wolverines, accompanied by the slogan OxfordStrong is MichiganStrong.
