Miami Stays Relevant, Squeaks By Virginia Tech
It took an 11-point comeback in the second half, but Miami got a big win against Virginia Tech on Saturday. The 25-24 victory moves the Hurricanes to 6-1 on the season, which means they're still in the mix for a potential ACC championship.
Star quarterback D'Eriq King wasn't as electric as he was last weekend against NC State, but he was good enough. The Houston grad transfer totaled 270 yards (255 passing, 15 rushing) and two touchdowns without committing a turnover.
It wasn't an overly impressive win for Miami. In fact, there were times that the Hokies looked like the better football team. But that shouldn't be too surprising. That is why Virginia Tech was a two-point favorite going on.
The Hurricanes only have one loss, and that was a 42-17 beatdown by No. 4 Clemson back in October. Since then, Manny Diaz and company are 4-0 with three of those victories being by less than a touchdown.
Play-calling and issues with consistency keep this squad from being as good as it could be, but they are still good enough to finish as a top 10 team with an outside shot at an ACC championship. It is going to start and end with King, however.
Miami will host Georgia Tech next weekend before taking on Wake Forest and North Carolina to close the regular season.
