LSU Will Clean House, Expected To Part Ways With Multiple Assistant Coaches
It hasn't been a great season for LSU. Despite being the reigning national champions, the Tigers were a disappointing 5-5 in the regular season. A few of those losses, including Mississippi State, Auburn and Alabama, were embarrassing.
Coaching turnover was a contributing factor to the steep decline. Passing game coordinator Joe Brady left for the Carolina Panthers, while defensive coordinator Dave Aranda was given a head coaching gig at Baylor.
There were high hopes for the replacements. Unfortunately, some of those replacements have not worked out.
On Monday, Ross Dellenger with SI Now announced that several LSU coaches will be parting ways with the program. The most notable of those departures is Aranda's replacement at defensive coordinator, Bo Pelini.
The other two coaches include defensive line coach Bill Johnson and safeties coach Bill Busch. In other words, the Tigers are cleaning house defensively.
That is not a surprising development, however. The defense was a major liability this season. The unit ranked No. 124 (out of 127) in total defense, surrendering 492 yards per game. In addition, LSU was tied for No. 97 in scoring defense, allowing 34.9 points per game.
That is simply unacceptable, and Ed Orgeron is proving that with these changes.
