LSU Losing QB To Transfer Portal

LSU quarterback T.J. Finley has entered his name in the transfer portal after one season with the team.

Fox 8 reports that Finley has been thinking about the decision for a while now, but said in an interview Thursday morning that he and his family made this decision after serious consideration.

"I believe me playing this year would be best for me. Going into a system that I would develop within the next two years to be draft eligible, and possibly go to the draft my third year, " Finley said, per Fox 8. "I just felt like it was time. I loved LSU, and I actually cried making this decision plenty of times. But it’s worth it. I feel like the benefits of this decision will outweigh the negatives."

Finley's LSU bio lists him as the top quarterback in the state of Louisiana in 2019 who enrolled at LSU in January 2020. 

In 2020, he logged five starts for the Tigers and led LSU to victories over South Carolina and Arkansas. The sophomore QB threw for 941 yards, with five touchdown passes and five interceptions last season..

With Finley's name in the transfer portal, the Tigers will look to three other scholarship quarterbacks currently on the roster — senior Myles Brennan, sophomore Max Johnson, and freshman Garrett Nussmeier -- to step up and deliver.

Brennan's bio states he's the "next in line to run LSU’s spread offense after learning from Heisman Trophy quarterback Joe Burrow for the past two years." He has seen action in 17 games for the Tigers, completing 42-of-70 passes for 600 yards and two TDs.
