LSU Corner Derek Stingley Jr. Hospitalized Prior Game Against Mississippi State With Illness, Not Covid

LSU is already going to have to replace a lot of talent from its National Championship roster, it is now also down Derek Stingley Jr..

Stingley was a consensus All-American as a freshman last season and most everyone in Baton Rouge expected him to be the face of a defense that lost nearly all of its starters.

The team released a statement of his ailment and was specific in calling out that it was not related to Coronavirus. Apologies to Dan Woken...

"Derek Stingley Jr. became acutely ill last night and was evaluated overnight in the hospital," LSU's statement said. "His condition is not COVID-19 related and he is expected to be discharged soon. He will return to activity after full evaluation by the medical team."

Sophomore Jay Ward is expect to start in his place while sophomore Cordale Flott is listed as the starter at the other cornerback position on the most recent depth chart.

Stingley led the SEC with six interceptions and 21 passes defended last season.

LSU will now line up against Mississippi State with just four total returning starters on offense and defense and it could face an unexpected test with the Mike Leach offense, it certainly makes the 14.5 hook an interesting number.
