Jeff Fisher Reportedly A Finalist For College Head Coaching Job

Jeff Fisher, the former football coach who has just been fishing the rivers of Montana and minding his own business, is now officially a candidate for the head coaching position at Montana State, according to Bozeman media outlets.

FootballScoop.com reports that Fisher, who has been out of coaching since 2016 when he was fired by the Rams, will reportedly face competition from former Oregon State and Nebraska head coach Mike Riley and Nebraska offensive coordinator Matt Lubick for the job.

The opening came when Montana State head coach Jeff Choate accepted the defensive coordinator position at Texas. Skyline Sports reports Choate was also offered a position at Alabama.

Fisher will turn 63 in February, but his ties to Montana go back to when he bought a summer cabin in Big Sky Country. Jeff's son, Brandon, then played college football at the University of Montana.

Now, Dad's a candidate for the head position at the hated rival school. Fisher and his wife own a house and property in West Yellowstone, Montana, about 89 miles from Bozeman.

Fisher's career record sits at 178-171-1, including six trips to the NFL playoffs and a Super Bowl appearance in 2000. His latest job in the sport came as the head of football strategy for the Alliance of American Football (AAF) before it folded in April 2019.
