Jayden Daniels Already Has Career-High In Rushing Yards Against USC
Jayden Daniels was one of college football's top freshmen quarterbacks last season. To some, he was already considered one of the top signal-callers in the country, regardless of age. But now it's a new season.
Daniels and Arizona State are going head-to-head against Kedon Slovis and USC to open their season. It was expected to be one of the top quarterback battles to go down. But so far, it hasn't lived up to the hype.
Midway through the third quarter, the two have combined for 367 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Of those, 251 belong to Slovis while Daniels only has 116 passing yards.
He does have one saving grace, however. He's rushed for 98 yards on only nine carries -- good for 10.9 yards per rush. That is already a career-high for the former top dual-threat quarterback out of the state of California. Last season, he only had 355 rushing yards in 12 games.
Between that and DeaMonte Trayanum's two scores on the ground, the Sun Devils are currently up on the Trojans 24-14. We will see if that is able to hold up, but it is a good start for head coach Herm Edwards and Arizona State.
USC is currently ranked No. 20 in the country, but it will be interesting to see how much hotter Clay Helton's seat gets if another Trojans team with high expectations starts the season off with a disappointing loss.
