Heisman Trophy Finalists Announced, Plus Who Cracked Top 10
The Heisman Trophy ceremony isn't until Tuesday, Jan. 5, but we now have the finalists. On Thursday, there was a "Heisman Trophy Finalists Reveal" that also included who finished Nos. 5-10 in the voting.
Before we get to the finalists, let's start with those other six players. Those guys finished in the following order:
10. Kyle Pitts, Tight End, Florida
9. Ian Book, Quarterback, Notre Dame
8. Zach Wilson, Quarterback, BYU
7. Justin Fields, Quarterback, Ohio State
6. Breece Hall, Running Back, Iowa State
5. Najee Harris, Running Back, Alabama
That order of finish above isn't all that surprising. Some may have expected Fields to be higher, but for anyone who has seen him struggle, it's actually more surprising that he finished that high in the voting.
It would have been amazing to see how Pitts could've climbed the list if not for a couple of injuries that kept him out of three games. In eight games, the ultra-talented tight end still finished with 43 catches for 770 yards and an eye-popping 12 touchdowns.
Other than that, things look pretty standard.
In any other season, Najee Harris would have been one of the four Heisman finalists. The Alabama running back has been outstanding this season. He's totaled 1,578 yards (1,262 rushing, 316 receiving) and 27 touchdowns.
But with these other finalists, it just wasn't in the cards for him. Those four finalists include (in alphabetical order):
That is the group most expected coming into the announcement on Thursday night, but it will be interesting to see how the group finishes. There are plenty of arguments to be made for all four candidates.
It looks like we'll have to wait until Jan. 5 to get our answer on who wins the award. Stay tuned!
