Georgia Landed Another 5-Star Quarterback, Will It Create Future Transfers?

If there is one thing Georgia knows how to do, it's recruit top-notch quarterback prospects. The Bulldogs seem to accumulate talent at that position, especially since Kirby Smart took over the program.

Smart was named the head coach back in 2016. Since then, there have been a number of key additions made at the most important position on the field. Here are all of those made by the Bulldogs since Smart's arrival in Athens:

On Thursday, Georgia landed yet another talent, former South Carolina commit Gunner Stockton. The in-state talent is rated as a five-star prospect and the nation's No. 1 dual-threat quarterback, according to 247Sports.

What else do you notice about that list above, though? Outside of a second stint from Bennett, three of those first four signal-callers on the list ended up leaving the program, including Eason (Washington), Fields (Ohio State) and Mathis (Temple).

It wouldn't be a shock to see Beck join that list at some point in the near future. But even with all that lost talent, Georgia still finds itself in a great position at that spot, especially over the next two years.

First off, the 2021 QB room will include Daniels, Bennett, Beck and the true freshman Vandagriff. That's a talented group, but it also has people wondering what the future might hold. Daniels is probably gone following this season, but he'll then be replaced by Stockton.

As it sits, that will leave a third-year Beck, second-year Vandagriff and first-year Stockton all competing for the starting job in 2022. Even if you believe Beck transfers, the battle between Vandagriff and Stockton could still get interesting.

If Vandagriff wins the job, would Stockton be willing to sit for multiple seasons? If Stockton wins out, why would Vandagriff stick around? Either way, the Bulldogs will be in a great position with their starter.

The better of the two will obviously win out, even if some argue that hasn't always been the case in the past. Some thought that Eason and Fields, who both competed against Fromm at one point or another, were better options.

We won't ever know for sure if that's true, but even if it is, the past isn't the future. Georgia's starting quarterback job will be in good hands, but fans need to understand that more transfers are coming at some point.

It's just a matter of figuring out who.
