Freshman QB Kaidon Salter Dismissed From Tennessee
Kaidon Salter was supposed to be the future quarterback for Tennessee. Whether in 2021 or beyond, there were high hopes for the four-star freshman out of Cedar Hill, Tex. Instead, it looks like he'll have to try and continue his career elsewhere.
On Wednesday, Volquest.com broke the news that Salter had been dismissed by Tennessee after yet another off the field incident.
The young quarterback was recently arrested on misdemeanor drug charges after police found marijuana on Salter and his teammate, Amari McNeil, during what has been described as a routine traffic stop this past Saturday.
Dan Harralson with Vols Wire confirmed the news through a statement from Tennessee.
According to Harralson, Salter was driving the vehicle that was pulled over for 1) not having taillights and 2) having a tinted cover over the vehicle's license plate. McNeill, a three-star offensive tackle from Tennessee's freshman class, was the passenger.
This isn't the first incident with Salter either.
Back in March, he was charged with simple possession and unlawful drug paraphernalia after an incident at Stokley Hall on campus. That forced him to miss spring practice, but he had since worked his way back to participating in team activities.
Now Salter's career as a Vol appears to be over before it could even get started.
With his dismissal, the Tennessee quarterback room now includes Virginia Tech transfer Hendon Hooker, Michigan transfer Joe Milton, Harrison Bailey and Brian Maurer. It's still not a bad group, but those involved with the program believe Salter had the talent to have a bright future in Knoxville.
