Football's Back! Arkansas Fans Rush The Field After Defeating SEC-Bound Texas
Unranked Arkansas gave No. 15 Texas a wake-up call after delivering an upset loss, 40-21, to the Longhorns on Saturday.
The stunning win by Arkansas led to a seismic rush of fans storming the field to celebrate taking down big bad Texas — adamant to belt out that strange Woo Pig Sooie chant, which became oddly poetic on this night.
Texas has been the story of the offseason, alongside Oklahoma, as the Big 12 program announced its intent to leave Bob Bowlsby in favor of the SEC.
Texas fans were understandably assuming that the elite Longhorns program would quickly leapfrog teams and contend with the Georgia's and Alabama's in the new move. Following Texas' loss on Saturday, the Lone Star program may consider waiting until 2025 to squeeze in a few more practices before trying to compete with the upper echelon of the SEC.
Arkansas fans weren't the only ones running rampant at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium. Arkansas' rushing attack cut through the Longhorns defense like butter — totaling 333 rushing yards to fuel the effective offense. Quarterback KJ Jefferson was second in the group with 73 rushing yards, while four other Razorbacks totaled close to 50 yards or more in the box score.
Texas' inability to keep up on offense prompted Steve Sarkisian to bench starting quarterback Hudson Card in favor of Casey Thompson. The Longhorns head coach gave some insight on the decision in the post-game interview.
"It was a gut thing. Hindsight is 2020 and maybe you look back and do it earlier, but we did it when we did it. I was proud of Casey and the way he competed," claimed Sark.
It was a great night for Arkansas fans, and another excellent Saturday of college football action.
