Ex-Ohio State QB Quinn Ewers Transfers To The Big 12 -- Again

Hair today, gone (south) tomorrow. Former Ohio State quarterback Quinn Ewers is bringing his mullet back home. Less than a month after announcing he was entering the transfer portal, Ewers has decided on his next school -- Big 12 member, Texas, which will soon enter a transfer portal of its own and move to the SEC.

Ewers shared his decision in standard 2020s-form: via social media.

"Hey Alexa play 'Take Me to Texas' by George Strait," Ewers tweeted on Sunday evening, along with the hashtag #HookEm.

Ewers, a former five-star recruit, was the top ranked 2021 quarterback recruit in the class of 2021, and most recruiting services had him ranked as one of the top signal callers in decades, if not ever. He originally committed to the Longhorns in high school before eventually flipping to Ohio State. He then reclassified to enroll early at Ohio State and take advantage of the NCAA's name, image, and likeness -- and he quickly cashed in, landing deals with a car dealership and energy drink company.

The highly-marketable Ewers ended up being a highly paid backup to the backup's backup in Columbus. He never climbed higher than fourth on the quarterback depth chart. To be fair, he didn't join the Buckeyes until August, half-way through summer camp, so he was always playing from behind.

As Ewers cashed checks from the pine, first-year Buckeyes starter CJ Stroud flourished, earning a spot amongst the Heisman finalists. Stroud's success and the realization that he'd remain planted behind him for at least another season led Ewers to make the move back to Texas, where he'll likely open the season as the starter.

Now, he'll leave a hairy quarterback situation for a scary record situation in Austin. The Longhorns are coming off a 5-7 season.
