Edgerrin James’ Son Commits To Tote The Rock In College

The son of NFL Hall of Fame running back Edgerrin James has announced his college commitment. Eden James plays the same position as his old man, but the three-star recruit won't be following in his footsteps at the University of Miami. Instead, Eden is headed to Howard University, an HBCU located in the nation's capital. As it currently stands, the younger James is the highest ranked recruit in the history of the HBCU.

Before committing to Howard, James mulled over offers from Miami, Wake Forest, Indiana, Temple, Army, and a handful of other big-time programs.

"They showed nothing but consistent interest. Everybody assumed I would go to one of the big schools, but I just thought the HBCU route would be something different — especially since it's becoming a trend now," James said via his Instagram. "Hopefully I'm able to be one of those key, contributing pieces to show that you don't have to go to a big time school to make it to the league, if that's what's in the books for me."

The 5'10, 190-pound back earned honorable mention all-state honors last fall and appears headed for more accolades. His current season includes a 297-yard game in late August and multiple 100-plus yard performances through the early part of the 2021 campaign.

Pops thinks Howard's getting a good one in Eden. “He’s going to be one of the smartest football players to play the game because I have already taught him everything about the game and he plays the position I play,” Edgerrin James told 247Sports.

James currently ranks as the 96th-best running back in the class of 2022.
