Danger Zone: Rose Bowl Trending in Wrong Direction

There were a lot of coronabros out there who thought we would never make it this far into the college football season. But here we are, quickly approaching the final weekend of the regular season.

It has been a bumpy ride, and unfortunately, that bumpy ride isn't over.

The latest event that could fall victim to the global pandemic is the Rose Bowl. The game will still be played -- at least we hope. It just might have to take place at a location other than the historic stadium in Pasadena, California.

According to Pete Thamel with Yahoo Sports, those in college athletics aren't confident that the game will take place in normal fashion. That doesn't mean that a change in venue is a forgone conclusion, but things are trending in the wrong direction.

Of course, that would also mean the College Football Playoff semifinal game would be in danger too.

There are issues with no fan attendance, travel times for potential Playoff contenders and other factors. One of the biggest hangups lies with players' parents not being able to attend, although this issue could still be addressed.

The following comment comes from someone Thamel describes as a "high-ranking athletic official" tied to a current Playoff contender.

Once again, things are trending in the wrong direction. The City of Pasadena has helped UCLA a few times this season, but there might be too many obstacles to overcome.

We hope that everything works out and that we will see a traditional Rose Bowl. The city is going to have to give some to make it happen, however. Parents deserve to see their kids participate in a massive moment like the Playoff, and they deserve to see it in person.
