College Football Playoff Committee Expected To Make Announcement On 12-team Playoff

Sports Illustrated's Ross Dellenger is reporting that the College Football Playoff Committee is expected to address the possibility of an expanded playoff later today. The recommendation is to move to a 12-team bracket that would include the six highest-ranked conference champions and six at-large bids.

More important football games by season's end? Sounds like a plan.

Why this can work

For one, college football is likely to reel in the regular season to accommodate an expanded playoff. Shorten the regular season from 12 or 13 games to something more condensed, so we can enjoy competitive football by the end.

And for two, this alleviates the log jam of teams stuck outside the playoff due to early season fluke losses. Now, any team playing elite football by season's end will get a real shot to show the world what they can do.

Sounds like a good thing that the committee plans to release a statement later today. We can't imagine they're chomping at the bit to speak if they aren't interested in a 12-team playoff.
