Clemson QB D.J. Uiagalelei Throws First Career Touchdown Pass

Clemson is without its star quarterback in Trevor Lawrence on Saturday. After testing positive for COVID-19 earlier this week, the top NFL prospect is missing the game against Boston College.

The good news? The Tigers still have plenty of talent at the quarterback position.

True freshman D.J. Uiagalelei is making the first start of his college career against the Eagles. And the former five-star prospect from California is making the most of his opportunity. With his team down 7-0 early in the first quarter, Uiagalelei threw his first career touchdowns pass to running back Travis Etienne.

Etienne took the swing pass 35 yards to tie the score at 7-7. It wasn't anything special, but it could be a historic moment depending on how Uiagalelei's career plays out.

With all being said, this isn't the first time that the Clemson backup scored this season. Against The Citadel in Week 2, Uiagalelei scored twice on the ground. They were both from short distances, but at 6-foot-4, 250-pounds, it is wise to utilize the powerful quarterback in that situation.

No one believes Uiagalelei will threaten Lawrence's job, but it is nice to see him showing fans what could be in Clemson's future. He is currently 7-for-7 for 71 yards and that score on the day.
