Camp Randall Expansion, Paused For COVID, Now Moving Forward

You can't keep Camp Randall down for long. Or more accurately, you can't keep renovations from taking place for forever.

According to the Wisconsin athletic department, the "comprehensive" renovations to the seats in the south end zone, paused because of the COVID-19 pandemic, will begin again soon.

Camp Randall was built in 1917 and is one of the top-five oldest college football stadiums in America. The renovations were originally scheduled to start at the conclusion of the 2020 season.

The plan for now is to add more premium seating funded by "a combination of state bonded dollars, privately fundraised dollars and dollars associated with new premium seating," per the school.

The construction will not impact seating for the 2021 season.

"The renovation will transform the game-day experience for Badger fans through enhanced premium seating options, access to indoor and outdoor hospitality clubs, climate-controlled amenities, expanded premium food and beverage offerings, dedicated restrooms and best-in-class service and operations," Wisconsin athletic officials announced.

The Badgers finished 4-3 overall and 3-3 in the Big Ten last season. Their first two games are at Camp Randall -- vs. Penn State (Sept. 4) and Eastern Michigan (Sept. 11). They will then face Notre Dame at Soldier Field in Chicago (Sept. 25). View their full schedule here.
