Boston College Returns 97-Yard Fumble For TD Against No. 1 Clemson

Boston College had a 2.9 percent chance of beating Clemson on Saturday, according to ESPN. But don't tell the Eagles that. They are currently carrying a 28-13 lead over the Tigers into halftime.

A big reason for that double-digit deficit was a 97-yard fumble return for a score by redshirt junior cornerback Brandon Sebastian. Surprisingly, it was star running back Travis Etienne who put the ball on the ground for Clemson.

At the time of the play, Clemson was only down 14-7. That means the Tigers went from tying the game up at 14 to being down two scores. Clemson was able to respond with a field goal, but Boston College countered with yet another touchdown before halftime.

With Trevor Lawrence being out, a lot of people might think the struggles are the result of a true freshman being out there at quarterback for the Tigers. Quite the opposite, actually.

Five-star D.J. Uiagalelei has completed 19 of his 26 pass attempts for 222 yards and one touchdown. He is averaging 8.5 yards per attempt with a 73.1 percent completion rate. Most of those yards have come from Etienne (four catches, 85 yards, one score).

He hasn't been perfect, but he's been good enough to help this team win. The problem has been the fumble from Etienne and a defense that has allowed Boston College to rack up 210 total yards and convert on 4-of-6 third downs.
