Arizona Fires Coach Kevin Sumlin The Day After Blowout Loss to Arizona State
Well, we all saw this one coming.
Kevin Sumlin has been fired as the head coach at Arizona after an 0-5 start to the season. Director of Athletics Dave Heeke released this statement on the move, which is effective immediately:
Sumlin's last loss was his worst. On Friday, in-state rival Arizona State handed the Wildcats the most lopsided defeat (70-7) in series history, and that had many -- including OutKick -- speculating about his departure.
Well, it looks like we finally got that news.
The former Texas A&M coach was a combined 9-20 in under three years is Tucson, and that run includes 12 consecutive losses.
Defensive coordinator Paul Rhodes will take over as interim coach to close out Arizona's season.
