5 SEC Quarterbacks Ranked In Top-25 By 247Sports

The SEC fielded two of the best quarterbacks in college football in 2019: Joe Burrow and Tua Tagovailoa. After successful college careers, they were the first and second signal callers taken in the 2020 NFL Draft.

This past season was a different story.

We got quality play from Mac Jones, Kyle Trask and Matt Corral, but it just didn't feel the same. Will the 2021 group be more like 2019 or 2020? That remains to be seen, but 247Sports released its top 25 quarterbacks for this upcoming season.

Five SEC players made that list:

Overall, it is a solid group of passers. There are some obvious projections there, however.

First off, Nix has not been impressive through two seasons. Neither Gus Malzahn nor Chad Morris could get the former five-star to take the next step in his development, but there is still some potential there.

Based on these rankings, the crew over at 247Sports must believe Johnson is going to win LSU's quarterback competition. That would mean he's beaten out veteran Myles Brennan, and underclassmen T.J. Finley and Garrett Nussmeier. That isn't a reach though. Johnson looked the part of a true freshman in his limited action.

Then there is Bryce Young.

He's another former five-star who was rated the No. 2 overall prospect and top dual-threat quarterback in the 2020 class. He's expected to take over for Jones, but some might think No. 8 is too high for an unknown. However, because of his natural talent and the talent of those surrounding him, it's not a reach either.

Corral seems a little low.

Working in Lane Kiffin's offense, the rising junior was No. 5 in the nation in passing yards per game (333.7) in 2020. He also finished in the top 10 in touchdowns (29), yards per attempt (10.2) and completion percentage (70.9 percent).

Losing star pass-catchers Elijah Moore and Kenny Yeboah could hurt, but growth is expected from Corral this season -- and there's still talented weapons in the passing game. Brad Crawford, who compiled the list, did say Corral would be closer to the top 10 if his play weren't so erratic at times.

Daniels was a no-brainer to crack the top-5, but seeing him at No. 3 was a pleasant surprise.

What do you think of the list? Did 247Sports get it right? If not, what would you change?
