247Sports Names 10 Underrated College Football Players, SEC Well Represented
Despite playing for top programs in Power Five conferences, some college football players just don't get the recognition they deserve. Because of their lack of awards or limited air time, such players can be considered underrated.
Well, Austin Nivison with 247Sports recently wrote an article about 10 guys he believes are underrated heading into the 2021 college football season. Though many of us have heard of most of these guys, in his opinion, we haven't heard about them enough.
SEC players took up four of the 10 spots, including guys from Alabama, LSU, Florida and Texas A&M. What do you think of the players Nivison selected?
Speaking candidly, I can see why he considers them underrated.
Ricks isn't going to get the same praise or attention that fellow LSU cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. is going to get. Wydermyer is widely considered one of the top tight ends in college football, but he doesn't always get included in the elite category, even though he probably should.
Pierce is a good running back, but people are constantly criticizing the Florida run game, so he doesn't get much praise for the work he does. And Brian Robinson Jr. is currently viewed as a significant regression from his predecessor, Najee Harris.
Former Auburn backup quarterback Malik Willis, who is now starring at Liberty, also made his list. Considering the market, it makes sense, but Willis is also considered one of the top signal caller prospects for the 2022 draft class. He just might not get the same chance for accolades as others such as Sam Howell, JT Daniels, Spencer Rattler or some others.
