Gregg Marshall Somehow Walking Away from Wichita State With Millions
We've known for a while that coaching agents in college basketball and football are much more sophisticated than university athletic directors and presidents, but if you are ever in need of the poster child example of this phenomenon, there's perhaps a new champion: Gregg Marshall is walking away from Wichita State with $7.75 million.
Reporters didn't need to look hard to uncover this nugget -- it's literally written in Wichita State's announcement of the resignation.
In October, reports emerged that Marshall had been accused of punching a former player in the back of the head and choking an assistant coach in practice in front of the team. Jeff Goodman of Stadium reported that multiple players confirmed the allegations to investigators as the university vetted these claims.
How Marshall parlayed a forced resignation into a $7.75 million settlement is anyone's guess, but his agent and lawyers probably had something to do with it.
