Grand Canyon Oscar Frayer Dies In Car Crash Days After Starting In NCAA Tournament

Tragedy has struck at Grand Canyon University just days after the school took part in the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament.

Standout player Oscar Frayer died in a car accident in northern California early on Tuesday morning. The school put out a release on the passing of the 23-year-old.

Two others passed away in the accident, Frayer's older sister, Andrea Moore, and a third person in their vehicle.

Grand Canyon lost to Iowa 86-74 in the first round of the Tournament last week. Frayer, a senior G/F played well, scoring eight points with five assists and three blocks.

“We love O,” GCU Coach Bryce Drew said in a statement.

“He was the heartbeat of our team with his vibrant, energetic personality. I cannot put into words the hurt and sadness we all feel, but we know he is in heaven and that gives us great joy to know we will be together again.”

Following the loss to Iowa, Frayer took to social media to talk about how proud he was of his team despite the setback.

“I bleed purple FOREVER!!!! THANK YOU LOPE NATION for the last 5 years. It’s been nothing less than amazing. from President Mueller, to our coaching staff, to my brothers who I compete with everyday. it’s love FOREVER. 4 Gone," Frayer tweeted.

It was his 107th start for the Antelopes.
