Dick Vitale Emotionally Remembers John Thompson

John Thompson, the legendary former basketball coach of the Georgetown Hoyas, passed away at the age of 78. Today on Get Up, Dick Vitale paid tribute to Thompson's legacy:




At the beginning of the call, Vitale was profoundly emotional and fighting back tears. The most poignant part of the segment, to me, was Vitale recalling how Allen Iverson really appreciated the chance Thompson gave him when no one else would.

Vitale called Thompson the Muhammad Ali of coaching. "He had principles -- he fought for his principles in the right manner," Vitale said.
