Arkansas-Pine Bluff Coach Calls Timeout & Makes His Players Run A Sprint For Lack Of Effort
What appeared to be an innocent dunk to put Iowa State up by 20 against Arkansas-Pine Bluff less than two minutes into the second half of Wednesday's game in Ames turned into something many college basketball observers have never seen in their lifetimes.
After the dunk by ISU guard Tyrese Hunter, Pine-Bluff head coach Solomon Bozeman called timeout and made his players run a sprint, apparently for a lack of transition defense, according to the ESPN+ broadcast team. ISU analyst Scott Christopherson seemed to think Bozeman believed the defense gave up on the play and he hit his boiling point.
He'd seen enough from his 1-7 program.
BOOM...RUN!
Christopherson went on to explain how the refs were "confused" and let them run it and then explained to Bozeman that "you can't do that again."
By the end of the night, Pine Bluff was 1-8 after an 83-64 loss and college basketball fans saw something that is about as rare as it gets at the collegiate level. Keep in mind, this isn't some preseason scrimmage.
Things don't get any easier for Bozeman and his squad. Saturday they're in Waco to face No. 4 Baylor.
