Wait, Are The Cavs Actually Good Again?

The Cleveland Cavaliers went into MSG Sunday night and walloped the Knicks 126-109 behind an electric performance from Ricky Rubio and rookie sensation Evan Mobley.

SIXTY-THREE points between the two with 15 assists to spread the wealth from beyond the arc secured the win. Cleveland was 19 for 35 from three-point range to essentially mop the floor with the sudden powerhouse Knickerbockers, and now they've officially gotten our attention.

So what happened? Well, when Ricky Rubio drops 37 points and Evan Mobley presents himself as a young Chris Bosh, you find yourself facing a deadly team. The Cavs are pretty good for the first time without LeBron since they lost to Jordan's Bulls, even if we don't want to admit it.

Ricky Rubio has proven to be a solid pick-up for this young Cavs team, however the real talk should be about their young big man, Evan Mobley. For those who didn't watch Mobley dominate for USC in last year's March Madness, picture this: a thin, seven-foot rim-protector who can grab the ball off the defensive glass with ease and then take the ball up the court. Any player who just came to your mind is or was likely a star in the NBA, which should show fans what the Eastern Conference is now dealing with.

Evan Mobley, the 20-year-old sensation, has a real opportunity to turn this franchise around. Of course, the help of a veteran like Ricky Rubio will be pivotal to his growth, but Mobley is the cornerstone of this franchise.

And we rarely ever say this about big men in the modern NBA. Most often, the stars are ball-handling point guards who refuse to get in the paint. Evan Mobley isn't afraid to lose a few teeth amongst the trees to impose his will on both ends of the floor.
