Rockets Announcer Says 'Who Needs James Harden' Live On Air (Yes, Really)
Houston Rockets' forward Christian Wood went on a one-man fast break in the first quarter of tonight's preseason game against the San Antonio Spurs. It was an impressive move that drew plenty of praise, but the Rockets home announcer took his excitement to the next level.
"Who needs James Harden?"
Yes, that was actually said live on the air in front of diehard Rockets fans enjoying a preseason game. Honestly, this was funny, and while the announcer likely won't say he dislikes Harden publicly, he probably isn't fond of him. Who can blame him? It's well known that Harden makes a habit of showing up late to film sessions and practices. He's also demanding to be traded. So what's to like? This local broadcaster probably just couldn't help himself.
Yahoo Sports' Shams Charania reported this morning that the Philadelphia 76ers made point guard Ben Simmons available in a trade for James Harden. The president of basketball operations for the Sixers Daryl Morey later refuted the report, but he's been known to lie to the media. Remember when he said Chris Paul was untouchable, then a week later sent him packing to the Oklahoma City Thunder? Perhaps he's stretching the truth again here.
This incident is just the Rockets broadcaster's way of saying: Go kick rocks, James.
We don't know how much longer the MVP lasts in Houston, but if this broadcast is any indication, it can't be much longer.
