Rajon Rondo Signs One-year Deal With Lakers Making Them What Feels Like The Oldest Team Ever
After a contract buy-out with the Memphis Grizzlies, veteran point guard Rajon Rondo plans to sign a one-year, $2.6M deal to return the Lakers, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. Rondo is currently 35-years-old and yet somehow just the fifth-oldest player on this roster:
Carmelo Anthony - 37
LeBron James - 36
Trevor Ariza - 36
Marc Gasol - 36
Dwight Howard -35
It could still work in the short-term, but my goodness is this team going to coast harder than any team ever. If they can stay healthy -- which, considering their age, is a big "if" -- they'll be really good.
And now they pencil in a backup, 35-year-old point guard to come off the bench for a 32-year-old Russell Westbrook. We rarely see a team built like the 1998 Bulls that clearly won't be together in a year, but we have it now in the NFL with Aaron Rodgers and the Packers, so we might as well do it again in the NBA.
Rondo is another veteran guy who knows how to win playoff games, and that's what he's here to do -- take pressure off LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Russell Westbrook during a random Game 4 on the road. It'll happen, and the Lakers know it.
