Montrezl Harrell Shocks The NBA World And Signs A Two Year, $19 Million Deal With The Lakers
Clippers big man Montrezl Harrell just signed a two-year, $19 million deal with the world champion Los Angeles Lakers. What in God's name is going on here?
Mostly known for calling Mavericks star Luka Doncic a b**** A** white boy, but he had quite the year on the court for the Clippers. Harrell won Sixth Man Of The Year and this now makes the winner and runner up in Dennis Shröder teammates with the Lakers. When the NBA champions add two bench players of this caliber in one offseason, it's a good one. Props to GM Rob Pelinka.
Harrell averaged 18.6 points/game in 2019/20 and while that number is expected to drop as we assume less playing time, he makes for a great addition. To basically everyone's enjoyment, Clippers guard Patrick Beverley was not happy.
I guess this is what happens when you count your money sitting at the table. At one point, the Clippers were known as the "scrappy" L.A. team that now loses their most blue collar piece. Montrezl likely wanted a change in scenery where load managing was no longer the norm. Turns out the Lakers culture might have just secured them an even better shot at repeating as champions.
