Mike D'Antoni Would Be A Perfect Fit With The Indiana Pacers
Indiana Pacers coach Nate McMillan was fired this morning and that leads us to who on earth will replace him. Rumors have already surfaced that the Pacers had an eye to nab Rockets' Mike D'Antoni and they should mortgage the house for him.
Eddie Johnson and Sirius XM's Justin Termine had telling news to share about McMillan:
If the Indiana Pacers couldn't keep their D'Antoni wishes in house since season's start, they must be sold on him. A small market that likely got crushed during the pandemic... who knows how much they're willing to spend?
Why D'Antoni fits like a glove
Mike D'Antoni has a habit of taking misfits and turning them into assets. During his run in Phoenix, he had guys like Grant Hill and Shaq running around the court like spring chickens. Of course part of that success comes from the Hacksaw Ridge training staff in Phoenix, but he got the best of every player on those frankly, average rosters.
Indiana is rumored to want to "build a program" and considering their lackluster standards, Mike D'Antoni will get them further than ever before.
Victor Oladipo's looming unrestricted free agency after the 2020-2021 season is the deadline to get better. No matter who they hire needs to jumpstart this roster into contention before Oladipo tells Indiana to kick rock. After all not one NBA basketball player gives a rat's ass about Indiana's Pumpkin pie.
Small markets need to be winning at the highest level to maintain theirs stars. James Harden and Steve Nash were turned into the game's most prolific offensive talents the game has ever seen, so why would Indiana think the D'Antoni magic vanished?
Hiring a coach to turn Oladipo into a superstar is the only way to title contention.
Indiana matching D'Antoni's eventual asking price will be like that time you bought your girlfriend that purse she hinted for a total hassle but worth it over the long haul.
Indiana, go get it done.
