LeBron To Miss A Week With A Rectus Abdominis Strain
Lakers star LeBron James is expected to miss a week with a strained rectus abdominis, according to Yahoo's Shams Charania.
Uhhh...we didn't hear that correctly, right? They probably could've called it an abdominal strain to make it sound less like he pulled his rectum at the gym. But in all seriousness, the incredibly old Lakers are doing exactly what we thought they would -- breaking down like old cars. There's nothing wrong with getting old in sports, it just happens.
Further reports from Shams claim the Lakers "want to be cautious" with the 36-year-old forward. The Lakers, as many predicted, will use the regular season as a spring training to prepare themselves for the playoffs. It's a reality most came to terms back in the pre-season with when the team pivoted to veteran guard Russell Westbrook rather than dealing for Kings three-point sniper Buddy Hield, who's in his mid-20's.
A full buy-in to players looking to win a championship now that were more susceptible to bizarre injuries like a strain to an abdominal muscle. We anticipate more of these weekly departures as the season goes on, but per usual, we never wish injuries on players and hope they end.
LeBron James was averaging 24.8 points per contest over his first six games this season -- his lowest mark since his rookie 2003 season. Of course, always ball-handling Russell Westbrook had plenty to do with that step back in responsibility, however the point guard will need to step his role up even further in James' absence.
